Defensor sign John DeGroat, ex Mauricio Baez- October 11, 2019
DeGroat played in the summer at Mauricio Baez in TBS league in Dominican Republic. In 8 games he averaged 11.1ppg, 4.0rpg, 1.0apg and 1.1spg. DeGroat helped them to make it to the final. The last season he played at Nacional where in 23 LUB games he had very impressive stats: 17.6ppg, 5.4rpg, 1.1apg and 1.1spg. DeGroat contributed to his team making it to the semifinals. Among other achievements he received Latinbasket.com All-Argentinian LigaA Honorable Mention award back in 2015. DeGroat is a very experienced player. He has quite traveled the world as his pro career brought him to eleven different countries on three different continents (Europe, Latin America and of course North America). DeGroat has played previously professionally in Chile (Universidad de Concepcion), Finland (UU Korihait), Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Mexico (Fuerza Regia), Paraguay (San Jose), Ukraine, Argentina (Boca Juniors, La Union, Instituto, Olimpico de La Banda and San Martin Corrientes), Uruguay (Aguada) and CBA (Pittsburgh X.). He attended University of Pittsburgh until 2006 and it will be his 14th (!!!) season in pro basketball. DeGroat's game is described as: A physical, athletic, active defender, good shooter and tough, aggressive rebounder. Gives his best offensively in 1-vs-1 situations front to the basket.
